Pattern Language on ECEC
Since 2017, we have been working with Prof. Takashi Iba's laboratory at Keio University to develop pattern language in the field of early childhood education and care (ECEC).
As the first step, we have created the first pattern language in the field of ECEC, "Endukuri no Kotoba" (2019, Maruzen Publishing), which puts into words the practical knowledge of middle leader of ECEC professionals.
Prof. Takashi Iba of Keio University explains Pattern Language as follows.
“Pattern language is a language in which patterns latent in designs and practices that produce good quality in a certain area are extracted, conceptualized, systematized, and summarized so that they can be used as a common language.”
Pattern language was originally invented by Christopher Alexander in the field of architecture. Today, the field of application has expanded, and in Japan, mainly through the Takashi Inaba Laboratory at Keio University, pattern language has been created in various fields related to human activities, and has been used to reflect on various practices and to share practical knowledge.
